Obama_UNPresident Obama Announces New Development Policy

President Obama’s announcement at the UN Millennium Development Goals Summit of a new U.S. Global Development Policy was a big step toward a more effective and coherent approach to spurring economic growth and reducing poverty around the world. Read more about the key changes and how IGD will continue to monitor the implementation of the new policy to ensure that development outcomes are indeed improved as outlined by the President.

Harold W. McGraw, III and Tim M. Solso called on President Obama to take a more strategic, results-oriented approach to development in the run-up to the UN meeting, arguing that the time is right to move U.S. development policy into the 21st century.

 

Raj_ShahFeed the Future

Speaking at the Clinton Global Initiative’s annual meeting last week, USAID Administrator Raj Shah identified Feed the Future as a cornerstone of the Administration’s new global development policy.  IGD seeks to integrate feedback from the private sector into Feed the Future  and most recently facilitated a conversation between USAID, U.S. multi-national corporations and African CEOs to further the goal of increasing public and private investment in African agriculture. IGD also hosted a CEO roundtable for Administrator Shah in Seattle on August 13.

 

Foreign Aid Reform

Indiana Business Leaders Support Aid Reform

On August 11, IGD and Oxfam America co-hosted a CEO roundtable in Indianapolis focused on the importance of improving the effectiveness of U.S. foreign assistance. Members of the Indiana business community committed to support comprehensive reform to better promote U.S. humanitarian, security and economic interests.

 

Aid Reform Within Reach

IGD and 38 members of the Leadership Council joined the Modernizing Foreign Assistance Network’s (MFAN) Reform Within Reach campaign, an effort urging President Obama to follow through on his commitment to reform foreign aid.
