May, 2010 IGD partnered with the Brookings Institution to convene a panel discussion on the role of business in development. Panelists Justin Chinyanta, Chad Holliday and Tim Solso discussed how private investment can catalyze economic growth and reduce poverty, and shared perspectives on investing in frontier markets. Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) CEO Daniel Yohannes provided opening remarks.
February, 2009 30 members of the IGD Board and Leadership Council sent a letter to all U.S. Senators urging their support of the MCC during the 111th Congress.
July, 2008 IGD joined the Millennium Challenge Account Working Group in sending a letter to Senate leadership urging them to provide the MCC with funding for FY09 sufficient to continue new compacts with eligible countries.
June, 2008, IGD joined a group of NGOs, development policy experts and administration officials in speaking out against a $525 million cut to the MCC’s FY2008 funding. Thanks to the advocacy efforts of IGD and others, the rescission was largely rolled back, allowing the MCC to sign compacts with both Burkina Faso and Namibia as planned.

May, 2008, IGD circulated a letter affirming support for the MCC and calling for full funding of the administration’s budget request.
March, 2008 IGD hosted an event in Indianapolis with MCC CEO John Danilovich, to give IGD partners the opportunity to learn more about the progress the MCC has made and the lessons it has learned in negotiating its first 16 compacts. IGD Board members Tim Solso and Bill Ruckelshaus placed an op-ed in the Indianapolis Star on the importance of the MCC.
September, 2007 IGD and 11 of its partner companies joined with members of the Business Council for International Understanding (BCIU) in an advertisement in Roll Call magazine supporting full funding for the MCC.
March, 2007 IGD partners expressed their belief in the promise of the MCC by signing letters to the relevant House and Senate Appropriations Subcommittees, advocating for adequate funding.
March, 2005 IGD partners urged President Bush and members of Congress to fully fund the Millennium Challenge Account during the 2005 budget cycle. |
