Policy Director

 

Scope of Work
The successful applicant will support IGD’s advocacy efforts to make global development a higher national priority and to demonstrate the strong support of U.S. business leaders for enhanced U.S. leadership in reducing global poverty and for more effective trade and aid policies. Key areas of focus will be congressional offices and the D.C. policy community. The ideal candidate will be a self-starter, well-organized, possessing experience with aid and/or trade policy making, highly collaborative and with excellent written and oral communications skills. This position will be Washington D.C.-based and will report to the VP for Policy based in Seattle. 

 

Responsibilities:

  • Working with IGD policy team on policy analysis and planning
  • Legislative research and tracking
  • Outreach to Congress and the administration
  • Development of relationships with key staff
  • Support for IGD meetings with government officials
  • Participation in meetings with think tanks, NGOs, business organizations and other partners on IGD’s behalf
  • Fostering strategic alliances for IGD advocacy campaigns
  • Preparing background material on key policy topics for IGD partners

Qualifications

  • BA minimum, MA preferred
  • 3+ years policy analysis and/or legislative experience in the fields of trade, foreign policy or development
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Outstanding organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Excellent team player with strong collaborative approach
  • Ability to work independently and to think creatively
  • Proficient computer skills using MS Office Suite, database software and Internet research
  • Exceptional time management skills to meet deadlines while managing multiple tasks
