Obama nominates new USAID Administrator
November 10, 2009
President Obama today nominated Dr. Rajiv Shah to head the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). Dr. Shah is currently serving as the Under Secretary of Agriculture for Research, Education and Economics and prior to that served as the Director for Agricultural Development at the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.
Read the White House press release announcing the nomination. The Modernizing Foreign Assistance Network, of which IGD is a member, applauded the nomination and urged quick confirmation. IGD is gratified that Dr. Shah has a depth and breadth of knowledge and experience that will enable him to be a strong and clear voice for development. IGD stands ready to support his efforts to fulfill the Obama administration’s pledge to make development a strong pillar of U.S. foreign policy. |
