Business and NGOs join to propose reform of trade preference programs.
April 22, 2009
On April 22, a group of business associations and development organizations jointly delivered letters to USTR Kirk and the leadership of the House and Senate committees with jurisdiction over trade. The letters urge comprehensive review and reform of all the U.S. trade preference programs and include a proposal for a single, streamlined preference program that expands product coverage for the poorest countries; recognizes the need for assistance to help countries take advantage of new market access opportunities; and simplifies rules in order to create greater certainty for exporters, importers and investors.
