The start of the IGD Frontier 100 Forum in Cape Town was a terrific success. It was exciting to see so many inspiring Frontier Leaders who are committed to making catalytic investments in Africa with the potential to dramatically improve lives and build communities.
The Forum opened with concurrent sessions focused on increasing access to reliable power and catalyzing agribusiness investments. IGD Board Chair Rob Mosbacher moderated the session on power, encouraging a rich discussion about IGD’s approach to standardizing the electric power development process to expedite the time from conceptual need to commercial use.
IGD President & CEO Mark Green led the session on agriculture, which, as a key driver of economic development in Africa, is a strategic focus of IGD’s work. In conjunction with the Forum, we launched AGINVEST, our new effort to catalyze increased private investment in agriculture, and released a report, IGD AGINVEST: Catalyzing Agribusiness Investments in Africa, that further outlines our approach. The session was a great opportunity to discuss how IGD can work with Frontier Leaders to drive the development of the agribusiness sector.
The night finished off with a welcome dinner celebrating IGD’s 10 years of working to reduce poverty through business investment. By connecting the right business leaders and providing a platform for sharing relevant insights to advance economic growth, IGD is catalyzing investments, benefitting communities and ultimately improving the lives of the poor. We are all excited to continue these discussions tomorrow.
