POWERING HEALTHY, VIBRANT COMMUNITIES

One of Africa’s biggest constraints to growth is a widespread electricity shortage throughout the continent. Insufficient generation capacity, unreliability, high prices, and low rates of access significantly reduce business productivity and local development. Several of the most groundbreaking African power projects in recent years have been developed by IGD member ContourGlobal, a U.S.-based company that manages, owns, and operates a portfolio of 31 power plants in 15 countries. ContourGlobal’s business model has four central principles: reaching underserved markets, demonstrating a fuel-agnostic approach, utilizing local resources, and implementing innovative solutions. Projects in Togo and Rwanda will provide each country with 125 MW of reliable, competitively-priced power in addition to creating jobs and training local workers.
