“Private sector development is the key to development,” stated Former U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice at the Millennium Challenge Corporation’s (MCC) 2013 Forum on Global Development, held on April 29 in Washington, DC. The event celebrated the importance of public-private partnerships and included the presentation of the annual Corporate Award, which recognizes companies that demonstrate development leadership in MCC partner countries. The 2013 Corporate Award was presented to Green Mountain Coffee Roasters, Inc. for its support of coffee growing communities around the world, including using a portion of pre-tax profits for social and environmental initiatives.

In 2012, IGD Frontier Leader Visa Inc. received the Corporate Award for its commitment to financial inclusion. The award ceremony highlighted Visa’s partnership with the Government of Rwanda, which will rapidly expand the availability of financial and payment services. IGD is currently collaborating with Visa to measure the social and economic impact of the partnership.
