What is the Jennifer Potter Emerging Leaders Program?

The Jennifer Potter Emerging Leaders Program is an effort that aims to inspire and empower the next generation of African business leaders. Launched in 2013, the initiative was undertaken in recognition of IGD’s former President & CEO’s ten years of leadership, and commemorates Potter’s dedication to expanding economic opportunity throughout her career, particularly among women. Each year, IGD selects a promising young business leader under the age of 40 who demonstrates a commitment to lifting lives through business growth and investment. The recipient must be African, with a company operating on the continent in the field of agriculture, financial services, information and communications technology, or infrastructure.

What Does the Program Provide?

Emerging Leaders gain exclusive access to IGD’s network of sector-leading senior executives and IGD initiatives, and have the opportunity to attend IGD’s exclusive, invitation-only Frontier 100 Forum on May 5-6, 2017 in Durban, South Africa. Emerging Leaders will gain valuable insights from IGD member CEOs about how to operate a successful business in Africa and drive meaningful social impact in their communities. Through introductions, IGD works to support the next generation of socially-responsible African business leaders, who have the potential to improve communities across the continent through greater participation in the global economy.

“It’s really great to become a JPELF fellow. I’d like to turn these opportunities and network into something of concrete value to make a difference in many people’s lives. Thanks to the IGD’s fellowship, I can see a big picture now, a holistic approach to my business, and I know how to more forward.”- Susan Mashibe, 2013 Fellow
