Having a solid outline is fundamental for any written project. The outline helps to decide how many words would be needed and the writer can simply work backward from the outline to the number of words needed inside a chapter.

Avoiding Edits While Writing

It is very easy to get distracted and to want to edit what was recently written. This is a very big mistake that many beginners make. Whenever the goal is to write better, it is vital that the writer focuses on the process of writing and that edits are avoided.

Most writers are perfectionists and they find mistakes faster than regular people. Once editing starts, it does not stop. What does stop is writing.

Entering Writing Flow By Researching Details Later

Journalists are often told to write first and then research later. This is counterintuitive but there is a basis for it. Writing is all about flow. Writer’s flow practically means that the writer keeps writing and words come out without efforts. After entering this flow, the mission of the writer is to remain there. Stopping in the middle of the sentence in order to figure out what a capital’s country is can easily stop writer’s flow. The goal is to write so research can come later and details can be double-checked and modified at a later point in time.
