Cumby Group – What Skills HR Managers Need

If you wish to become an HR manager for any kind of company there is a certain set of skills which you are going to need. All manner of industries and businesses need HR staff in their team, to manage their employees wellbeing. Communication Skills

So much of this job is about communication, about acting as the go-between staff and management. You will need to be able to listen well to those who have issues and you will also have to ensure that you are able to get your message across in a clear and concise manner. Communication is very much at the heart of this kind of job role.

Empathy

As the human resources manager you will need to ensure that you have the empathy which is required to deal with all manner of issues which the staff may have. In some cases this could be a conflict situation, in others you may have to deal with the personal issues of the team. No matter what the situation is, your empathy will be tested regularly and this is another key component of this particular job.

Coaching

Contrary to what many people think, HR managers are not just there for the ground-level team, they are also on hand to support with all members of staff. Coaching is going to be a key skill that you will need in this position and that is all about knowing how to get the best out of people. To be a good coach you also have to be good at reading people and knowing how to get the best out of them.

Recruitment and Selection

It is usually down to the human resources manager to deal with the recruitment of the team, and knowing how to select the very best talent is critical to this. You should be able to assess the work history of people and know how to speak with them to understand what they may or may not be able to bring to the business. Getting the best talent is vital for any company and that is why this is another important skill you will have to have.

Organization

The HR section deals with an enormous amount of administration and that is why you will have to ensure that you have organizational skills in order to stay on top of it all. HR managers are not able to work under cluttered conditions and you must be able to put systems in place which everyone will follow, in order to maintain an organized space.

These are the core skills you will need in this particular job role.
